ESD: Electro-Dissipative. In ESD (EPA) areas, environments sensitive to electrostatic phenomena, it is compulsory to use approved dissipative occupational footwear complying with the European EN61340-5-1 standard, which provides for as follows: When the footwear/metallic plate system is used the resistance value shall range between 5 x 104 Ohm (1 x 105 for shoe) e 1 x 108 Ohm. When the footwear/floor system is used as the main method for the unloading on earth, the total resistance of the combination shall be between 7.5 x 105 Ohm e 3.5 x 107 Ohm. Through its sole construction, ESD footwear provides a safe, controlled method of discharging the static electricity that accumulates in your body. The tolerances for the resistance of ESD footwear are stricter (100kO 35MO) than for ordinary antistatic footwear. Wearing ESD footwear can help you avoid damage to sensitive electronic equipment.
