Best was founded in the 1930’s in the USA by Neil Tillotson after he discovered that hardened polymers did not have as many advantages as natural rubber latex. He spent his life innovating in this field.

Best remained at the forefront of the industry, manufacturing many types of different gloves and inventing others, including the first wrinkle free-finished rubber coated glove in 1960. This was followed a decade later by the invention and introduction of the very first chemical resistant PVC gloves.

In 1990 Best introduced the first latex-free examination glove, followed in 2003 by the first ever accelerator-free disposable glove. Accelerator free gloves do not contain natural rubber latex and powder, and this in turn reduces the occurrence of type one allergies. A Type 1 allergy is the reaction to a specific allergen.

In 2005 the sponge nitrile glove was introduced. This coating ensures the best possible grip and dexterity when working with oily surfaces.

In 2007 Best was bought by Showa, a Japanese glove manufacturer. This significantly increased the portfolio of both companies as Showa is at the forefront of glove technology in Asia.

Showa invented the first PVC glove in 1950 and introduced this technology into the manufacturing of gloves for fisherman. The 1980’s saw the invention of the first seamless knit glove by Showa, followed by a number of innovative applications like oil resistant PVC gloves and the launch of polyurethane /nylon gloves in 1985.
